Pit Bull Owner ‘Rough Houses’ with Dog Just Before it Suddenly Attacked 5-Year-Old Boy

A Pit Bull suddenly attacked a 5-year-old boy, named Hallah, Friday while he played in the front yard of his aunt’s home in Northern Idaho. “The dog did a lot of damage in a very short amount of time. Nobody even heard it,” the little boy’s father, Vince Peone,  told

According to family members, the dog owner was “rough housing” with the Pit Bull across the street from the home in Desmet (on the Coeur d'Alene Reservation.)  The dog suddenly broke loose, charged at Hallah and began mauling  him viciously.

Peone’s niece ran outside and was shocked to see the dog owner—covered in blood--lying over Hallah’s body to try to protect him. The grateful father said he believes the man saved his son’s life, KREM,reports.

Hallah was sent to Kootenai Health. The Pit Bull tore off half of his right ear and he suffered “grotesque” head wounds, . According to Peone, “He’s going to suffer psychological reminders every day when he looks in the mirror.”

KREM said that Hallah’s wounds were so horrendous that they could not show  photos of the little boy.

More than a dozen family members and friends gathered to greet Hallah when he was released from the hospital Sunday afternoon, according to Yahoo News.

Hallah’s father said he wants other  parents to know,  “All the big breed dogs can do this kind of damage and it can kill children,” Peone says.

Peone expressed no ill will or accusations against the Pit Bull owner “We don’t understand why it happened, but we’re just very blessed that our child is still with us,” he said.

Family members reported that the Pit Bull was euthanized following the attack..

Coeur d’Alene Tribal Police reveal that the dog’s owner wasn’t arrested, but could face charges.
