Image Of CNN's Reaction To Jon Ossoff's Loss Goes Viral (Photo)

A screenshot depicting a CNN political panel's melancholy reaction to Democrat Jon Ossoff's loss in Georgia's special congressional election has gone viral.

On June 20, Republican Karen Handel won the available House seat in Georgia's 6th congressional district with 53 percent of the vote, beating Ossoff by six points, according to NBC News. The election set a record for the most money ever spent on a House race, with over $50 million spent by both sides.

CNN had four of its regular panelists on to cover the election result: politics editor Mark Preston, political analyst Gloria Borger, political director David Chalian and reporter Dana Bash, according to Fox News Insider. As the network cut to break, someone took a screenshot of the panelists looking deflated.

The screenshot quickly went viral after being posted to various blogs and websites.

On "The Fox News Specialists," co-host Katherine Timpf said the election had been "billed as a referendum on President Trump and his agenda."

"Perhaps no single image better captured the left's and mainstream media's disappointment than this picture from CNN's election coverage last night," she said in reference to the screenshot, adding: "Mailman didn't run over your dog, guys, it's gonna be OK."

"[CNN] apparently held a wake after [Ossoff] lost," radio personality John Cardillo tweeted.

"Bravely fighting back tears," one user wrote.

Another tweeted: "Ossoff lost, & CNN will be taking a break. They are going to see a shrink about some controlled substances."

Meanwhile, Trump took to Twitter to congratulate Handel for her victory.

"Congratulations to Karen Handel on her big win in Georgia's 6th [congressional district]," he tweeted. "Fantastic job, we are all very proud of you!"

Handel referenced Trump in her victory speech, saying she owed "a special thanks to the president of the United States of America."

It was a bitter loss for the Democrats, some of whom are openly speculating about whether House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has become a liability. Politico reports that Republicans spent millions of dollars on ads that depicted Ossoff as a Pelosi clone.

"I think you’d have to be an idiot to think we could win the House with Pelosi at the top," Rep. Filemon Vela said. "Nancy Pelosi is not the only reason that Ossoff lost. But she certainly is one of the reasons."

Expressing a similar view was Rep. Kathleen Rice, who argued that Pelosi should step aside.

"There comes a time when every leader has to say, 'For the good of the order and for the betterment of the party, it’s time for me to step aside,'" she told Politico. "And I wish that that would happen right now. This is not a personal thing. I want to get back in the majority."
