A dog can be seen in a photo desperately trying to run after its owner after it was reportedly abandoned at a gas station in Slidell, Louisiana.
Lorie Hollis, the good Samaritan who captured the incident, saw the dog’s owner jump out of an old blue and white pickup truck, then deliberately drop the dog off at the gas station and speed away.
According to the Louisiana Humane Society, the owner reportedly said, “Go! Go over there!”
Witnesses reported that the dog desperately tried to catch up to the speeding truck on Highway 11. When calls were finally made to the local animal control office, the dog was unfortunately already left that area.
Hollis attempted to follow the man, though she soon lost sight of the truck and the dog, who had crossed two lanes of traffic to follow his owner.
“My heart is broken, and I am in shock that someone would treat a dog like this,” Hollis told WDSU.
The pup was described as a black German shepherd mix with a small patch of brown under its neck. The Humane Society of Louisiana is currently offering a $250 reward for any information leading to the arrest of the owner and the safe return of the dog.
The shelter has vowed to accept custody of the dog and find it a home after the animal receives a medical exam and assessment.
According to Jeff Dorson of the Humane Society, the shelter would love to be a part of “a happy ending” for the dog.
