Philly-Area Cop Shoots Herself In Leg In Front Of Police Headquarters

A Philadelphia-area police officer shot herself in the leg in front of police headquarters on Saturday night while she was struggling with a hit-and-run driver who was resisting arrest.

The name of the Coatesville Police Officer, who sustained a single gunshot wound to the leg that is not believed to be life-threatening, has not been released.

Michael Vega, 42, was charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, driving under the influence and other offenses. His bail was set at $500,000.

Apparently Vega was involved in a car accident and left the scene before the driver of the other vehicle could obtain his information. As Vega fled the scene, he allegedly almost hit the driver of the other car with his vehicle.

The female officer found Vega behind the wheel of his car at 3rd and Kersey Street, NBC Philadelphia reported.
