NFL star Colin Kaepernick is facing backlash for refusing to stand during the national anthem. In response, a Marine took to social media, blasting Kaepernick’s actions.

Joey Jones, a Marine sergeant, stepped on an explosive while serving combat in Iraq on Aug. 6, 2010. He lost both legs and badly wounded both his wrists and right forearm.

After two years of rehabilitation, Jones devotes his time to public speaking events for nonprofit Boot Campaign, which serves veterans.

The double-amputee always stands up whenever the national anthem is played, according to Mad World News. So when he heard about Kaepernick’s refusal to do the same, the Marine decided to do something about it.

He went on Twitter, blasting the San Francisco 49ers quarterback. “Hey [Kaepernick] I don't have legs but I'll stand w/ enough pride for both of us every time my National Anthem plays,” he tweeted.

The tweet went viral, getting over 57,000 likes and more than 41,000 retweets in two days.

Nevertheless, Kaepernick’s fans were quick to deride Jones and defend the athlete. Some even mocked him for being an amputee.

Others brought history into the argument and the meaning of the First Amendment.

“This isn’t your country. This land belongs to natives. That flag represents all the natives you killed,” read a tweet.

Another Twitter user wrote: “Some song is being sung or the fundamentals of Americas political identity, like the 1st amendment which protects Kaep.”

Although there was strong backlash against Jones’ comment, he also garnered a lot of support.

“That same country you call s----- has given you the ability to voice that opinion too, no matter how ignorant that is,” tweeted a Trump supporter.

“Oh good hell. A few cops are bad so let’s insult an entire institution,” wrote another.
