A Pittsburgh man nearly killed his girlfriend this weekend after dousing her with perfume and lighting her on fire.
Clinton Cohen, 27, was arrested Saturday after an alleged domestic abuse incident at his girlfriend, 22-year-old Maria Redman’s, home. The couple’s three month old infant daughter was also at the residence during the incident.
According to NBC News, the couple was arguing about where Cohen was going to live when he verbally and physically assaulted Redman.
“It was a verbal domestic dispute and he began choking her, then punched her. Cohen then opened a bottle of perfume, poured it over the victim and lit it with a cigarette lighter,” said Lieutenant Jeff Korczyk.
Redman was quickly taken to West Penn Hospital, where she still is in critical condition with burns on 30 percent of her body.
Cohen was arrested and charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, and endangering the welfare of children. The infant daughter was fortunately unharmed during the incident. Authorities later found splatters of her mother’s blood on her.
Cohen has a history of run-ins with the law that include assault and robbery, according to the New York Daily News.
At this point, no trial date has been set.
