Pennsylvania man Frederick C. Harris III, 49, is the key suspect in a vicious double homicide and dismemberment case. He is believed to have murdered his mother and stepfather.
Police discovered the remains of Olivia Gilbert, 73, and Lamar Gilbert, 76, stuffed in several trash cans recently during a visit to the couple’s home for a welfare check. Olivia’s daughter had asked police to carry out the check after she didn't hear from her mother for several days.
When Penn Hills, Pennsylvania, police officers entered the home, they found Harris unresponsive in a bed. After Harris was taken to the hospital, an officer spotted a number of what appeared to be blood stains on the carpet. After attaining a search warrant, police combed through the house for indications of where the blood came from. They found their answer in the garage.
There, the dismembered bodies of Lamar and Olivia were stuffed into a half-dozen trash cans. Officers discovered loose arms, legs and organs in the bins. Five bloodied kitchen knives were also found nearby.
Police have not identified a motive for the murders, though they believe they could have been sparked by an argument. According to investigators, Harris was recently kicked out of his father’s house for trying to choke him.
Harris is scheduled to be arraigned on charges today. Penn Hills detectives say he shut his eyes and refused to speak with detectives during questionings.
