Michelle Rounds, who is Rosie O'Donnell's new girlfriend, apparently shocked her parents with her new romance as they were not aware that she was a lesbian.
Rounds' dad, Roger Rounds, told the National Enquirer: "It totally hit us out of left field. We only found about Michelle liking girls when all this came out about them a few weeks ago. It's been hard to take."
Rounds met O'Donnell over the summer when the two were at the same coffee shop.
"I walked into a Starbucks in the summer and she was holding a little puppy," O'Donnell said on ABC's 'Nightline.' O'Donnell said she struck up a conversation about dogs and how she was looking for a second one because she had just moved to Chicago for her new talk show.
O'Donnell claims that she had no intention of picking up Rounds when she first met her: "I thought she was a 28-year-old heterosexual girl because that's what she looked like to me."
O'Donnell recently told Howard Stern that she had met Rounds' parents and the two were talking about marriage, but Michelle's dad says that isn't true: "I've never met the woman and I have no real desire to at this point," he said, though he did admit O'Donnell had met his wife.
He added: "This has been a painful experience for me and my wife. We'd always held out hope that Michelle would eventually find a nice guy to marry, settle down and have kids. And now this, it's pretty shocking stuff for us to digest."
