Two parents who left their 9-month-old baby in a crib alone for 16 hours have been charged with felony child neglect.
Prince William County Police officers were called to the home of Adam Jerell Vince Alexander, 21, and Jasmyne Alexandria Alexander, 21, when they received a call for an unresponsive infant. Police found the 9-month-old baby girl unresponsive and not breathing, reports WUSA.
The baby girl, named Avarice, was pronounced dead at the scene.
It was discovered by police that the Alexanders had left the baby in her crib for approximately 16 hours without checking on her; from 8:30 p.m. the following evening to 12:30 p.m. the day she was found unresponsive.
The Daily Mail reports the parents had been drinking after they put Avarice to sleep and did not check on her before going to bed.
The infant had not been to a doctor in seven months, even though she showed signs of a breathing problem.
Before Jasmyne was arrested, she posted to Instagram a photo of her child with the hashtags, #imissyou #iloveyou #rip.
The Alexanders are currently being held on a $10,000 secured bond.
