Two parents are currently under investigation for allegedly beating their two-month-old baby boy to death on Christmas Day.
Paramedics received a phone call on Thursday night from Kayla Edwards, who told them that her baby boy had stopped breathing. They rushed to the Montana home on the 200 block of Terry avenue to find the baby in critical condition.
When they examined the infant child, they found numerous “suspicious” injuries on his body and called the police. Kayla Edwards and her husband, Brandon, were then arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, the 23-year-old mother “struck her son in the head so hard that she caused a brain injury.” It added that the mother also “strangled her son to prevent him from breathing.”
Brandon Edwards, 28, reportedly confessed to watching and allowing his wife to abuse their baby boy in an interview with police. He also admitted to choking his 2-month-old baby on a separate occasion.
The baby died at 3:48 am on Saturday in Children’s Hospital Colorado in Aurora. The child is believed to have a twin sister.
Both parents are currently in custody at Yellowstone County while police continue their investigation.
“We’re just waiting for the county attorney’s office to see what the actual charges might be, since the baby died,” Billings Police Department Lieutenant Jeremy House told the Billings Gazette.
According to Deputy Yellowstone County Attorney Chris Morris, the parents are expected to make an initial court appearance on Monday.
