Paralyzed Dog Left At Shelter With Heartbreaking Note

An animal shelter in Tampa, Florida, sent out a plea for help after a paralyzed dog was left on its doorstep with a heartbreaking note.

Genie was left on the doorstep of the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, along with a handwritten note from her owner.

“Please help my Genie. Genie (her name) is paralyzed from I believe her hips to her hind legs. I tried to manage her pain with medication from her vet but they only ease her pain and she needs surgery,” the note read. “I cannot afford so I ask that the Animal Health Center heal her and find her a loving forever home. Thank you.”

The Humane Society later posted a Facebook update, saying it would take care of the dog.

“We will care for Genie. We will do our best to heal her body and mend her grieving heart. We will give her a second chance and find her a loving home,” the organization wrote.

Another update was shared days later on the Humane Society’s page:

“On behalf of herself, our staff, and all the wonderful animals currently at our shelter, Genie would like to THANK YOU ALL for the support you showed us on #‎GiveDayTampaBay. Thanks to your passion for animals and generous spirits, we exceeded our goal for the day and raised $20,849!”

“This money has already been earmarked for pets who need our help, pets like Genie. Genie is feeling more relaxed and secure and continues to be very brave in the face of her circumstance. She especially enjoys trips outside to sniff around and meet new friends. We will keep you updated on her progress.”

Genie’s story quickly went viral, with many saying they wished the dog could be reunited with her owner.

“The owners had to really love genie for them to give her up to help her. At least they didn't threw her in the trash or worse. Some people don't know how to go about to get help for there pets. God bless genies owners and genie for a good recovery,” one reader wrote on Facebook.
