Eddie Justice and other partygoers at the Pulse Orlando club were hiding in a women’s bathroom in the early morning hours of June 12, while outside the door Omar Mateen was going on a shooting rampage that eventually killed 49 of the club's patrons, including Justice himself.
Before being murdered, Justice, 30, sent a series of frantic texts to his mother, Mina, the Daily Mail reports.
Between 2:06 a.m. and 2:39 a.m., Justice texted "Mommy I love you"; "In club they shooting"; "Trapp in bathroom"; "Call them mommy"; "He’s coming"; "I’m gonna die."
Now the city of Orlando, Florida, has confirmed that he was one of the victims who were fatally shot in the attack, as that final bloodcurdling text predicted.
His mother, in an amazing show of strength and courage, took to Twitter with the message: "Going to try & get some rest. Please keep the prayers going. The prayers of the righteous availeth much. We will get through this tragedy one day at a time. Sleep tight Eddie, Mommy loves you son."
Justice was employed as an accountant and lived in a downtown Orlando condominium, which his proud mother referred to as "a sky house, like the Jeffersons," reports the Washington Post.
The killer, who went on his shooting spree armed with an AR-15-style rifle and a handgun, was subsequently killed by a SWAT team about three hours after the shooting started around 2 a.m., reports the New York Times.
Although the motivation for the crime is not entirely clear, he reportedly got angry when he saw two men kissing in Miami a couple of months ago, the Daily Mail notes.
