A mother in Spokane, Washington, has been accused of murdering her 16-month-old son. When asked why she did it, she reportedly said, "I did what I had to do."
Reports say that Scott Bass called 911 to report that his fiance, 36-year-old Tami Christianson, murdered their son Brody. When police arrived, found the toddler dead, and arrested Christianson, Bass asked officers to let her out of the patrol car so he could kill her, the Daily Mail reports.
Around 3 p.m. in the afternoon on June 4, Bass allegedly put his son down for a nap. A short time later, Christianson came into their bedroom with stains all over her clothing and a "dazed" look on her face, according to police records. When Bass asked her what was wrong, she reportedly said, "It's done."
She then told him, "I did what I had to do."
Bass ran into the baby's room to check on him and was horrified by what he saw. There was Brody's lifeless body with vomit and feces covering the room around him. Bass reportedly attempted to perform CPR on his son to no avail, and when he eventually dialed 911, he shouted, "My girlfriend choked my baby!"
The Daily Mail notes that when emergency personnel arrived at the scene, Bass wouldn't stop yelling, "She killed my son!"
Responders reportedly attempted to question Christianson at the scene, asking her why she killed Brody, but she only repeated that she did what she had to do.
Less than an hour after Christianson was taken into police custody, Bass took to Facebook to share his outrage.
"For everyone out there who thinks Tami Christianson is such a wonderful human being. I hope she rots in f****** hell!!!" Bass wrote in the post, according to the Daily Mail. "She just murdered my only son Brody. Her own son!!!!!!"
KIRO7 News reports that Christianson does not have a criminal record, but she does have a history of bipolar disorder, painkiller addiction, and suicidal tendencies. The mother-of-three had reportedly expressed a desire to get rid of Brody in the past.
"I'm going to kill that little f****r," Christianson reportedly told Bass when Brody was just 2 months old, according to the Daily Mail. Bass allegedly reported her threat to police at the time, but they said there was no reason to be overly concerned.
Just recently, Christianson had reportedly shown warning signs that she was on the verge of a mental breakdown. In May, the mom was allegedly found on the edge of a bridge, and she appeared to be ready to jump to her death. She was reportedly committed to a psychiatric center and released some time later with medication to take.
Medical examiners have not yet released an official cause of death, and police are still investigating the gruesome murder.
Christianson is currently in jail on $1 million bail and has been charged with second-degree murder.
