Police are investigating after a California woman went missing while on a routine jog.
Sherri Papini, 34, was last seen jogging in the Old Oregon Trail and Sunrise Drive area on Nov. 2, the Ventura County Star reported. Police believe she may have been abducted.
Shelia Koester, Sherri ’s sister, told the Star that Sherri sent a text to husband Keith Papini before going on her jog. She asked him if he was coming home for lunch. Keith replied that he wasn’t.
When Keith got home, nobody was there, says the Daily Mail. He used the Find My iPhone app and located his wife’s phone on a jogging path in Redding, according to a GoFundMe page set up by the family.
Keith also discovered that their two children were never picked up from daycare. Koester said her sister usually picks the kids up and then jogs in the afternoons. She told KRCR that Sherri loved her children.
“She wouldn't leave her babies,” Koester said.
“She wouldn't just drop her phone if she was running away,” Suzanne Papini, Keith's sister, told the New York Daily News. “At least it's giving us some kind of information. This is a pretty sickening situation.”
Keith called 911 to report his wife missing.
On Nov. 4, more than 100 people gathered to help search for Sherri. Secret Witness of Shasta County, Inc. is offering $50,000 to anyone who has information that leads to the arrest and/or conviction of the suspect(s) involved with Sherri’s disappearance.
The family posted a photo on Facebook of what Sherri was believed to be wearing on the day she disappeared. Police have not identified a person of interest as of yet, but are investigating four registered sex offenders in the area.
