A 22-year-old man is accused of raping and killing his girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter in Oklahoma City.
Justin Lawson was arrested Sept. 3 after Shaleah Cudjo was found at her home not breathing.
Lawson was alone with the child prior to the 911 call, triggered by a welfare check at around 10 a.m. last Thursday.
Earlier, he called Shaleah’s mother to say the 2-year-old girl was sick.
“I got a call that she peed on herself and was shaking,” Keah Cudjo told KFOR News, according to Inquisitr. "I tried to come home, but he said she was alright."
“By the time I got here, my baby was on her back, foaming at her mouth," she added. "The first thing I did was ran to my baby, screaming for someone to take me to the hospital."
Paramedics reportedly tried to resuscitate Shaleah for an hour, but she was pronounced dead shortly after being taken to a children’s hospital.
“They told me by the time I got here, she was already dead and there was nothing I could do; she had lost too much blood,” Keah told KFOR News, according to the Daily Mail.
Shaleah displayed injuries consistent with sexual assault. An autopsy performed Friday revealed damage to the girl’s liver, kidneys, anus and rectum, News OK reported.
Lawson fled the scene after the 911 call, but was detained at around 9 p.m.
Keah had been dating Lawson for only a couple of weeks, but she said she knew him for years as a childhood friend, according to Inquisitr.
Keah’s family reportedly wants Lawson to receive the death penalty.
