Ohio Woman Sentenced To Life In Prison For Role In Daughter's Rape

A mother in Ohio has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to charges of child abuse, endangering children and rape.

Jeanie Mae Carpenter admitted in court on Dec. 17 that she helped her boyfriend, James Kirksey, rape her 12-year-old daughter, WTOV reported.

The girl told a relative in July about the abuse, which occurred on multiple occasions over the course of two weeks, according to Metro.

On at least one occasion, Carpenter held her daughter down while Kirksey, 32, raped the girl.

Kirksey, a previously convicted sex offender, was sentenced to two life terms in prison on Nov. 6 for his role in the abuse.

Judge Frank Fregiato, who sentenced both defendants in the case, called the rape, as well as Carpenter's role in it, a "crime against nature" as well as a "horrendous and an unbelievable act."

"If a 12-year-old girl cannot trust her mother to love and protect her, who in this world can she ever trust?" Fregiato said. "She certainly wouldn't expect her mother to be assisting in the rape. As stated, [Carpenter] will receive life imprisonment and she will not be eligible for parole for the maximum of 20 years."

Carpenter is slated to enter prison immediately after sentencing, which was on Dec. 30. She was being held on a $1 million bail before the trial.

In 20 years, if Carpenter is eligible for parole, she will have to register as a Tier III sex offender for the rest of her life.
