Ohio man Kurt Flood was charged with the murder of a 1-year-old Maryland boy on Monday.
According to prosecutors, Flood believed the boy, Cameron Beckford, had demons and beat the toddler to get rid of them. Flood reportedly spanked the child so hard that he began to bleed.
The toddler’s mother, 25-year-old Dainesha Stevens, had stayed with Flood near the area where Cameron’s body was discovered inside a backpack in a Central Ohio creek last December. Stevens pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and evidence tampering last week for not stepping up to help her son sooner. Her cooperation with police contributed to Flood’s charges.
Flood, who is listed in court records as having no attorney, was jailed on suspicion of probation violation. He was later charged with felonious assault, endangering children, evidence tampering and abuse of a corpse.
