A man named Thurman Winston is the third person this month to die only so that internet users may delight in their bizarre obituaries.
Earlier in September, Marianne Theresa Johnson-Reddick passed away. Her obituary in the Reno Gazette-Journal, apparently written by or on behalf of her children, excoriated the woman for her “her evil and violent life.”
The obit said said of the woman, “Everyone she met, adult or child was tortured by her cruelty and exposure to violence, criminal activity, vulgarity, and hatred of the gentle or kind human spirit.”
Then a man named William “Freddie McCullough passed away to have his exploits celebrated in a colorful obit that lauded his love of adventure and his sexual prowess.
“Freddie adored the ladies. And they adored him,” the obit noted. “There isn’t enough space here to list all of the women from Freddie’s past. There isn’t enough space in the Bloomingdale phone book. A few of the more colorful ones were Momma Margie, Crazy Pam, Big Tittie Wanda, Spacy Stacy and Sweet Melissa (he explained that nickname had nothing to do with her attitude). He attracted more women than a shoe sale at Macy’s.”
Now comes the Winston obit which reads somewhat conventionally, albeit with tortured spelling and grammar, lauding the deceased’s, “passion for cars, motorcycles and entertaining family and friends, hunting, fishing and remodeling.”
But it’s the final line of the obituary that has the internet buzzing, particularly users of the popular forum Reddit.
“He stayed busy. He leaves to cherish his memories of his wife, children and grandkids, a host of backstabbing mother f*****s that still owe him money.”
The obituary was printed in a booklet handed to attendees at Winston’s funeral.
