Obama Heckled Repeatedly During Drone Speech (Video)

Medea Benjamin, founder of the anti-war group Code Pink, repeatedly interrupted Obama’s speech today at the National Defense University.

When the President mentioned his “plan to transfer detainees cleared to travel to other countries to ‘the greatest extent possible’” from Guantanamo Bay, Benjamin implored that the President release all 87 cleared detainees immediately.

Though clearly a bit perturbed by the extensive interruptions, Obama gave Benjamin just a bit of props, saying “the voice of that woman is worth paying attention to. Obviously, I do not agree with much of what she said, and obviously, she wasn’t listening to me in much of what I said, but these are tough issues, and the suggestion that we can gloss over them is wrong.”

Apparently, the National Defense University, which is located in Fort McNair, is usually under extremely heavy security. Sources still do not know how Benjamin gained access to the event in the first place.

Code Pick “often interrupts high-profile political events with vocal protests against U.S. foreign policy and national security strategy,” says Benjamin. NBC explains that this speech was not the first in which Obama was repeatedly interrupted.

“I wouldn’t feel comfortable if I didn’t have at least one heckler,” the President later said jokingly.
