NYPD Release Video of Deadly Shooting in Harlem
Kenny Jimenez and Francisco Mercedez were fatally shot on Sunday at around 3 a.m. in the Harlem area of New York City.
The NYPD released a surveillance video (below) that reportedly shows the male suspect firing a gun at the two men and running away.
Jimenez was hit in the neck, while Mercedez suffered wounds to back.
“When they got shot, I was holding them,” friend Hector Melo told CBS New York. “They died in my hands. It was crazy. I’m mad at myself, I didn’t see the person.”
“I wish I was there to help him,” added Mercedez’s brother, Miguel. “I felt like I lost everything. I lost my role model. I looked up to him. Right now, I feel lost.”
The shooting scene has been turned into a memorial with candles, empty bottles and notes.
Mercedez was an aspiring rapper who had returned from a concert in Connecticut.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic man in a gray hoodie, dark-colored shirt, camouflage shorts and white sneakers, who drove off in a white Nissan Altima with tinted windows.
"He didn't deserve this," Saribel Merette, Jimenez's sister, told NBC New York. "He was only 21."
"He's a very nice guy, very humble guy, very sweet, loving to the whole family," added Stacy Velez, Mercedez's cousin.
