Adam Newman was performing stand-up comedy this weekend at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade Theater in New York City when the NYPD entered and arrested an audience member.
Four police officers carried flashlights as they walked into the audience and arrested the unidentified suspect (video below).
"This is the first time this has happened; you guys couldn’t have waited until after my set?” Newman asked the police, reports VillageVoice.com.
One NYPD officer replied: “Obviously not. Honestly, shut the f--- up, alright?”
"That's the weirdest heckle I've ever gotten," said Newman.
“How am I supposed to know what the f--- just happened?” Newman told the audience. “I was trying to make a tape to submit to f-------- Conan!”
Newman later wrote on Facebook:
It's been two years since I posted a video of myself pulling cocaine out of a heckler's coat, and I SWEAR I don't want to be the comedian who only posts heckler videos. But sometimes the NYPD busts in while you're on stage trying to make a late night submission video, arrests an audience member, then yells at you to, "Shut the f--- up!" And what are you supposed to do, not post it?
Newman tweeted a little more about the incident today:
Apparently the dude was accused of robbing someone, but once he was arrested, said the accuser was trying to rob him. That's all I know.
“I didn’t handle the situation that great, but I figured I would post it,” Newman told Mashable.com “This isn’t a ‘comic destroys heckler’ video but rather just a ‘weird stuff that happens while I’m on stage’ video.”
