Hunter College's Sarah Coit Nearly Decapitated by Killer Boyfriend

In an unspeakable act, New York City college student Sarah Coit was stabbed to death by boyfriend Raul Barrera when she tried to break off their relationship. When police found her, she had such a deep stab wound on her neck that her head was almost detached from her body.

Amazingly, Coit was still alive at the time -- but died after she was rushed to the hospital.

Coit, 23, had been a student at Hunter College till last year. Barrera was still a student there. The two lived together in an apartment on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Neighbors heard the couple having a loud argument yesterday morning at around 2:15 a.m. Sunday. When Coit began screaming "Help me, help me," neighbors shouted back, "Where are you? What apartment?" but she never answered them. They then called 911.

When police brought Coit's body out of her apartment, they warned neighbors not to look at the grisly scene. She was rushed to hospital around 2:30 a.m. but died from her injuries.

Barrera is said to have already confessed to killing Coit. When police apprehended him, he said, "I did something bad."

Coit, from a well-off Connecticut family, had been studying marketing at Hunter College. She and Barrera had lived together for around two years.
