Work was halted at a New York City construction site after a 3-foot saw blade came loose, flew 100 feet and struck a pedestrian in the leg.
The blade was being used to cut through cement when it flew off. It hit a tree before striking the 43-year-old woman as she walked through Hell’s Kitchen.
“All of the sudden, everyone started screaming, ‘move, get down,’” witness Matt Bisi told CBS New York. “I turned and saw the blade come flying down the sidewalk. She was shaking, she was bleeding.”
Police say she had a deep gash in her leg and was taken to Bellevue Hospital. She was in stable condition Tuesday night.
According to police, the construction company was replacing a ruptured water main. The contractor was ordered to stop not use any saws until they were inspected and deemed safe.
