Comedian Amy Schumer has announced she would pack up and leave the U.S. if Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump wins the November election. She joins a growing list of celebrities who would look for new pastures in the event of a Trump presidency.
On Sept. 6, Schumer told BBC News that a Trump victory would irrevocably change her comedy performances.
“My act will change because I’ll need to learn to speak Spanish because I will move to Spain, or somewhere,” Schumer said. “It’s beyond my comprehension if Trump won. It’s too crazy.”
A number of celebrities have promised to relocate if the Republican nominee wins the general election. The majority of them made their pledge in spring 2016, before Trump had even won the GOP nomination, according to Breitbart News.
Pop star Miley Cyrus took to her Instagram page to write a profanity-filled slam against Trump, announcing “Honestly f--- this s--- I am moving if this is my president! I don’t say things I don’t mean!”
Academy Award-winning actress and “The View” host Whoopi Goldberg stated that she would be unable to accept Trump as her commander-in-chief.
“That’s not the president I want,” Goldberg said. “Maybe it’s time for me to move, you know. I can afford to go.”
Goldberg’s co-host, Raven-Symone, has stated that she has already purchased a ticket and will move to Canada in case of a Trump victory.
George Lopez has been a vocal critic of Trump’s rhetoric towards Latinos and undocumented immigrants. The comedian quipped that if Trump were to win, “he won’t have to worry about immigration. We’ll all go back.”
The Rev. Al Sharpton has stated that he was reserving a ticket out of the U.S. in case of a Trump presidency “because he’d probably have me deported anyhow.”
Comedian and actor Eddie Griffin has deemed Trump to be a racist.
“If Trump wins, I’m moving to Africa,” Griffin said. “If he wants to build a wall to keep Mexicans out, I know what the f--- he feel about a n----.”
Blockbuster star Samuel L. Jackson shares Griffin’s sentiment, quipping, “If that motherf----- becomes president, I’m moving my black ass to South Africa.”
Actress and writer Lena Dunham, a friend of Schumer, has pledged to move to Canada if Trump wins.
“I know a lot of people have been threatening to do this, but I really will,” Dunham said, according to Fox News. “I know a lovely place in Vancouver and I can get my work done from there.”
Some celebrities have threatened to not just leave America but planet Earth itself. Former “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart stated that if Trump won, “I would consider getting in a rocket and going to another planet, because clearly this planet’s gone bonkers.”
Iconic singer Cher chimed in on social media, tweeting “If [Trump] were to be elected, I’m moving to Jupiter.”
