NFL teams are considering hiring police experts to examine the tattoos of possible draft picks because of concerns that Aaron Hernandez may have tattoos that are gang-related.
Hernandez, a former tight end for the New England Patriots, was recently charged with the first-degree murder of Odin Lloyd, a semi-pro football player.
CBS Sports journalist Bruce Feldman recently posted on Twitter: “Spoke [with] longtime NFL personnel man who said in wake of Aaron Hernandez teams may use police experts to check prospects tattoos.”
However, the Bristol County Sheriff’s Office has not found any gang affiliations with Hernandez's tattoos, notes CBS News.
“We always take extra precautions. We don’t have any definite issues at this point, but we’re still being very cautious. [Hernandez] talked to our gang investigators and said he didn’t have any involvement," Sheriff Thomas Hodgson told the Boston Herald.
Ernest Wallace and Carlos Ortiz are facing lesser charges related to the Lloyd murder case.
