N.Y. Man Sentenced After Love Triangle Ends In Two Murders

New York man Steve Whittingham was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison after stabbing his wife and her lover to death when he caught them in the act of cheating.

Whittingham, 49, was arrested in December 2014 after the bodies of his wife Jonelle Barker, 36, and her lover Jerome Barrett, 35, were found in East New York, the NY Daily News reported at the time

Investigators claim Whittingham stabbed Barrett multiple times in the chest after discovering him and his wife having sex in a parked car, the NY Daily News noted in a separate article. Barrett managed to climb out of the car without clothes on and stumble to the front door of a building to call for help before dying.

Barrett was found naked in a pool of his own blood. Barker was found later in Barrett’s 2009 Kia, which was parked on New Lots Avenue in Brownsville near Brooklyn, New York. Her naked body was stuffed into the trunk, according to New York Police Department (NYPD) source who spoke with the NY Daily News at the time.

Whittingham discovered his wife and her lover after receiving a phone call instructing him to drive to the corner of Louisiana and Seaview avenues, the Daily Mail reports. Whittingham's lawyer argued in court that Barrett originally attacked him with a knife and that he reacted in defense.

Whittingham noted that his wife was still alive when he left her in the car trunk.

All three were baggage handlers at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Whittingham was charged with first and second degree murder. On Nov. 1, he was sentenced to 25 years to life for the crimes.
