Authorities in New York City are looking for a 32-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl, police said Sunday.
The man has been identified by police as Daniel Nieto, WPIX News reported.
Police allege that Nieto broke into the girl’s Staten Island home and sexually assaulted her on Aug. 6 at 2:45 a.m.
The girl’s family caught him as he was leaving the house, NY1 News reports. Police later arrested Nieto and charged him with trespassing. He was arraigned on that charge and later released, police said.
The day after his release, the girl reportedly came to police and said Nieto had raped her while he was inside the home.
Nieto is described as a Hispanic male, 5-foot-2, weighing approximately 125 pounds, with short black hair. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt with a black vest and brown pants and shoes, according to WCBS News.
Prior to his arrest for trespassing, Nieto had no criminal record, silive.com noted. Police are reportedly unsure where he lives.
