New York City Nanny Accused Of Abusing 6-Month-Old Girl

New York City nanny Elena Bass was arrested on Dec. 30 after she was caught on a nanny cam reportedly abusing a 6-month-old girl.

After becoming suspicious, the Brooklyn parents set up a nanny cam to capture Bass, 36, and saw her “violently removing” their daughter from the crib on Dec. 22 and slamming her into an armchair on Dec. 23, reports WNBC.

After watching the nanny cam, the girl’s parents accused Bass of grabbing and swinging their daughter. The girl has reportedly not suffered any physical injuries, reports NY Daily News.

Bass was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child. She was arraigned on Dec. 30.

According to Bass’ attorney Earl Roberts, Bass believes the videos are inaccurate. Roberts noted that one of the videos speeds up at the end, and that the mother of the 6-month-old girl agrees regarding the defect.

One of Bass’ neighbors in Staten Island described the nanny as “a little off,” and noted that she often takes in stray cats.

“We call her the cat lady,” another neighbor said.

Bass declined to respond to questions from NY Daily News as she left the Brooklyn Criminal Court. Her husband replied to questioners with a brisk “no comment.”
