Gunfire that broke out during a Mother’s Day parade in New Orleans left 19 people, including two children, wounded.
In total, 10 men, seven women, a 10-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy were all shot. City police said they were searching for three suspects in connection with the shootings.
Police superintendent Ronal Serpas said that police officers saw the three suspects fleeing the scene. "It appears that these two or three people, for reasons unknown to us, started shooting at, towards or in the crowd," Serpas said. He added that the incident was over in "just a couple of seconds," Reuters reported.
Mayor Mitch Landrieu called the shooting part of "the relentless drum beat of violence" that has plagued New Orleans. "It's a culture of violence that has enveloped the city for a long, long period of time," he said.
The New Orleans Police Department released video of the shooting and posted still pictures of one of the suspects on YouTube. The surveillance footage shows a crowd of people running away from a man wearing a white T-shirt and dark pants. Police are hoping that someone will recognize the man.
