New Mexico Deputy Caught On Video Slapping Handcuffed Teen (Video)

A newly-released video (below) shows former Sandoval County, New Mexico, Deputy Fred Switzer slapping a handcuffed teen four times in the back of a police cruiser on Aug. 24, 2015.

Switzer, 70, was charged with battery on Feb. 5, which, if convicted, could result in up to six months in jail and and a $500 fine, notes KOAT.

Switzer and another deputy placed the teen in the back of the police cruiser after a court appearance. The boy allegedly mouthed off to Swizter before spitting at him. That's when Switzer may have used excessive force against the boy by slapping him four times in the face with the front and back of his hand.

Lt. Keith Elder, a spokesman of the Sandoval County Sheriff's office, said a supervisor witnessed the incident, reported it to administration and Switzer was terminated following an internal investigation, the Albuquerque Journal reports.

Switzer had also been fired from the Albuquerque Police Department, according to ADP spokesmen, Tanner Tixier. Though the reason he was fired is unknown, Switzer was a probationary officer for less than a year in 2003.
