New Jersey Teacher, Councilman Sentenced To 15 Years In State Prison For Sexual Communications With Students

A New Jersey teacher and former councilman is spending time in prison after he engaged in inappropriate sexual communications with 17 of his male students.

Charles Reilly, 45, pleaded guilty to official misconduct, child endangerment and attempted child endangerment, reports The Associated Press.

Reilly reportedly instructed the boys, ranging from 12 to 16 years old, at Pine Hill Middle School on how to masturbate and one time told them to bring semen-stained tissues to class so they could make art projects.

The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office said Reilly sent inappropriate sexual communications to the students from 2006 to 2011. He was also accused of sexually touching a student in June 2007, the South Jersey Times reported last year.

Authorities said Reilly also interacted with an undercover officer posing as a student online as part of the investigation and asked the officer to delete the sexual electronic communication.

Detectives also reportedly discovered child pornography in Reilly’s possession.

“He is a coward,” one victim’s mother told The Philadelphia Inquirer.

"My son was betrayed by someone we all trusted in the community,” another said.

“There are some actions for which apologies never suffice,” Reilly’s lawyer, Robert Agre, said. “Mr. Reilly, through me, expresses remorse for the impact of his conduct.”

On Friday, he was sentenced to 15 years in state prison and he must serve five years before he’d become eligible for parole.
