A New Jersey man's bail was set at $500,000 for shooting his estranged wife eight times after learning that she had filed for divorce.
Marc Harrison of Jersey City has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of hollow-point bullets, and additional weapons offenses, including possession of a firearm by a felon.
Harrison is also involved with another case in which he was charged with breaking into his wife's home and assaulting her.
His bail was set by Hudson County Court Judge Mitzy-Galis Menendez, who is handling both cases.
Officers responded to the woman's home Thursday morning at 8 a.m. to find her on the floor, bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds.
She told officers that her husband shot her. When they asked why, she said, "Because I filed for divorce."
According to a police report, she was shot eight times.
A source revealed that Harrison was arrested and a handgun was recovered.
In addition to the two cases against him, Harrison also has two prior convictions for drug offenses.
Harrison's wife has three young children. It is believed that the children were not in the home during the shooting.
She has been hospitalized and is in critical condition.
Harrison's bail is set at $500,000, cash only, and as of Saturday it was not known if he has an attorney.
