After allegedly shooting and killing his neighbor’s dog, a Maryland man apparently decided to post a Facebook selfie with the puppy’s body. When the picture went viral, a petition was started demanding that the man be charged.
Kenneth Woodburn allegedly shot and killed the dog one morning after it crossed into his yard. The dog, Tank, belonged to Woodburn’s neighbor Richele Ince and her four-year-old daughter.
According to reports, the dog was shot from behind, which seems to contradict Woodburn’s claims on Facebook that it “charged him.” Before the man actually shot and killed the dog, he had posted a status saying that if the dog came into his yard, “Hey going to dye today [sic].”
Once Woodburn posted the picture with the dead dog on Facebook, people started spreading it around, and soon, outraged citizens from all over began calling the local police to inform them of what happened.
Tank, a pit bull/lab mix that was only a year old, was loved by his family and even more cherished by the children at the daycare located on the same street as both Ince and Woodburn. Ince believes that her dog was walking down to the daycare center, where he spent most of his time, and after crossing through Woodburn’s yard, he was shot.
Ince says that after they buried Tank on the property of the daycare center, one of the mourning children laid on his grave in the rain because he was saddened by the puppy’s loss.
A petition has been drafted by a relative of Ince’s asking that Woodburn be charged for killing the animal.
“I took my little cousin home after she got off work... she was worried cause her baby had gotten away from the person who was watching him, but she had just bought a new runner and was going to put it up as soon as we found him.... before we got to her house, a neighbor named Kenny Woodburn shot Tank and then afterwards he posted a picture of it on facebook like a trophy....Tank was shot in his side (the side that was facing the house that he was heading away from) and then shot in the head.... To me that just proves that the dog was shot as he was trying to exit the area.... Not only did Mr. Woodburn shoot a puppy (yes Tank had just turned 1 in March) but he also resides next door to a daycare. The direction that he shot was the same direction as the daycare....The outcome that day was very sad but could have been worse....I am asking for support in having this person [charged] with any and all charges possible especially endangering a childs (or childrens life),” writes the relative in the petition.
Woodburn has a string of run-ins with law, including DUI, weapons, and drug violations from late last year.
