Mike Wallace, the 57-year-old Nascar champion, was reportedly severely beaten on the night of June 17 while leaving a Rascal Flatts concert at the PNC Amphitheater in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Also attacked were Wallace’s wife and daughter, reports the Daily Mail.

Wallace, who had triple bypass surgery in April 2015, was reportedly kicked in the face and knocked unconscious during the beating, while his daughter received rib injuries while trying to protect him.

Wallace’s mouth required twelve stitches, tweeted his brother, Kenny, the Daily Mail notes.

On Facebook, Wallace posted photographs of himself and his daughter following the attack, along with this message, according to

I normally would not post personal affairs but this is to help and give advice to our friends, do not ever talk to a group of now what appeared to be drunk or drugged up young adult men or women when you’re trying to get in your car to leave the un guarded PNC amphitheater in Charlotte, NC parking lot after a good Rascal Flatts concert. This is what I looked like after I was knocked out and crap beat out of me. The ambulance driver took this picture we were just supposed to have a fun night. I want to thank my family and friends for helping to protect me from a worse beating as I layed unconscious on the ground.

He also noted the irony that the perpetrators had been released from jail before he and his family were even out of the hospital.
