Mystery Woman Foots The Bill For Firefighters Shopping For Memorial Day BBQ (Video)

A California woman went above and beyond for a group of firefighters who had to leave their groceries behind in a store while responding to a call.

According to reports, the firefighters were shopping in a Vacaville Costco on Saturday to get food and supplies for a Memorial Day BBQ. Unexpectedly, the crew received a call about a medical emergency and had to leave the store and all of the items behind. About 30 minutes later, the crew returned to pay for the items, but to their surprise, a mystery woman had already taken care of the $123 bill for them.

“The note said ‘thank you firefighters for all you do have a good day’ and it was signed by an Air Force wife,” said Vacaville Fire Department Battalion Chief Jeff Ryder. “We’re hoping that that person would come by and let us thank them for it.”

At the time, the firefighters were all wearing camouflage and shirts with American flags in honor of fallen veterans, so it is likely that the woman was moved by their patriotism.

Following the incident, the Vacaville Fire Department posted a message on their Facebook page thanking the unknown woman for her kindness.

“While one of our crews was shopping at Costco, wearing our camouflage shirts to honor the military, they received a 911 call and had to leave their cart of food and run out to the engine,” the post read. “After returning to the store to pay, a military wife paid for the entire cart and left this note. Whoever did this, we are forever grateful and your kind gesture will not be forgotten. Meals at the firehouse come out of our own pockets and this was beyond generous. We hope to pay it forward by serving dinner at Pietro's #1 on Wednesday night where 50% of every pizza will go to the Travis AFB Fisher house.”

The fire department was inspired to pay it forward even more, saying they paid for flowers that an elderly couple was buying for Memorial Day and are even planning to host a 90-year-old veteran for dinner in the near future.
