Former middle school music teacher Devri DePriest was sentenced to jail for six months after pleading guilty to six charges of statutory rape.
DePriest was originally charged in 2011 with 15 counts of statutory rape and one count of sexual battery for having sex with two underage male students in Gallatin, Tennessee.
As part of a deal with prosecutors, DePriest plead guilty to six counts and was sentenced on Monday.
"She’s going to serve a very significant sentence for somebody who’s never been in jail before, which is nothing to sneeze at. I wasn’t going to agree to anything that didn’t include jail time," Assistant District Attorney Jayson Criddle told The Tennessean.
"I’ve spoken with both [victims] and their families, and they’re satisfied with the outcome. They’re relieved to not have to go through a trial."
When DePriest is released in January 2014, she will have to serve 10 years probation and give up her teaching license.
DePriest was charged with having sex with a 16 year old and a 17 year old, who were members of the Gallatin High School band, which she taught.
