History seemed to be repeating itself this morning at 1:30 a.m. when rap music mogul Suge Knight was shot inside a West Hollywood, Calif., nightclub during a video music award (VMA) pre-party thrown by hip-hop star Chris Brown.
Knight was in a car with Tupac Shakur when the rapper was shot and killed in Las Vegas in 1996.
"We can confirm that the person known as Suge Knight has been identified as one of several victims in a shooting in West Hollywood," a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokesman told Reuters.
An unidentified man and woman were also wounded in the shooting.
According to TMZ, shots rang out inside the 1OAK club and partygoers quickly hit the floor (video below).
Knight, who was wounded six times, left the club under his own power, but was taken by an ambulance to a local hospital where he underwent surgery. He is in ICU, but is expected to recover.
A MTV spokesman stressed that the party was not sponsored by MTV, which airs the VMAs each year.
An hour-and-a-half before the shots, rapper "The Game" came to the 10AK club where he and his friends got into a physical altercation with security guards. The Game was not allowed in the club, but his friends stayed behind. No word if they had anything to do with the shooting.
In response to the shooting, Brown tweeted today:
It's disappointing that we as a society can't have fun or enjoy ourselves without any altercations sometimes. Miss me with the bull----!!!
