The mother of a male teen accused of raping a 69-year-old man has come to his defense.
"I know he didn't do it," his mother said. "That's not what type of child I got.”
"He ain't a pedophile," another family member said.
The teen has been charged with aggravated rape for the attack on the 69-year-old man running along West Mississippi Avenue in North Chattanooga, reports WDEF.
District Attorney General Neal Pinkston filed a petition to move the case to Hamilton County Criminal Court, and requested the teen be tried as an adult.
Juvenile Court Judge Rob Philyaw will decide whether to try the teen as an adult. For now, he will remain in the county’s juvenile detention center and not be released to house arrest.

The teen was arrested at his school, according to his mother.
The accused “gave a verbal and written confession to his actions during the rape,” said Court Administrator Samuel Mairs.
His mother believes he is innocent, and says the confession he gave was done without her being present.
Speaking about her son, she said he likes music and dancing, sings in the church choir, and while he has faced charges of disorderly conduct in the past, he has devoted his life to Jesus Christ.
"He's a good child," said his mother.
If tried as an adult for aggravated rape the teen could face 15 to 60 years in prison.
