A California woman accused of fatally stabbing her 2-year-old, 16-month-old and 2-month-old has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.
Carol Coronado, 30, is charged with three counts of capital murder. She entered a plea Monday in a Los Angeles County court. An indictment that was unsealed Monday revealed she is also charged with attempted murder.
Police say Coronado tried to kill her own mother when she discovered the children’s bodies in their Torrance home on May 20. Coronado was rushed to an area hospital after she stabbed herself in the chest.
Coronado’s attorney told an earlier hearing that his client was suffering from postpartum depression.
Her husband Rudy Coronado stands by his wife calling her a “great woman.”
“She doesn't deserve to be where she's at,” he said, according to the Daily Mail.
If convicted, Coronado could face the death penalty.
She is scheduled to appear in court again on Oct. 17.
