A pregnant Philadelphia woman died after she was hit by a stray bullet during a drive-by shooting on Sunday. Monday morning her newborn son died as well.
Megan Doto, 26, was hit in the cheek by a stray bullet shortly before 11 a.m. Sunday. Police believe the mother-of-two was sitting next to the intended target.
She was watching her neighbor’s 7-year-old daughter when the shooting took place.
“She was not the intended target; she was just unfortunately in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Captain Stephen Murianka told Philly.com.
She was rushed to Temple University Hospital and later died from her injuries.
Doctors performed an emergency C-section to save her unborn son, who she had planned to name Carmine Joseph. The baby wasn’t due until October.
Her son was in critical condition through Sunday night. A hospital spokesperson said the infant died Monday morning.
No arrests have been made. Police found two dozen shell casings a block away from the scene.
They say the shooter fled in a Chevy Impala or a late model white Ford Crown Victoria with tinted windows.
