A Russian woman who tried to hire a hitman to kill her daughter-in-law because she was tired of her jokes has been sentenced to nine years in jail.
According to police, Tatiana Kudinova, 50, from Rostov, southern Russia, was tired of her 30-year-old daughter-in-law Roxanne’s constant jokes about how she did not have a lot of money, so she decided she wanted to have her killed.
Roxanne repeatedly referred to Kudinova as a “skinflint mother-in-law” after the two had an argument over who should pay for food for their guests after a party. It irritated Kudinova so much that she sought out a hitman.
Kudinova offered a local criminal gang roughly $1,700 to kill Roxanne, reports The Daily Mail.
“I don't care how she dies, I only want you to kill her,” police said Kudinova told the gang.
The man Kudinova paid a deposit of nearly $900 to was in fact an undercover police officer.
Kudinova was not immediately arrested. Instead, police devised a sting operation to catch Kudinova by faking Roxanne’s death and taking photos of her supposed dead body.
“We needed to catch her in the act of paying for the murder and giving an advance payment was not enough,” a police spokesperson said. “So we arranged for it to appear as though the daughter-in-law was dead, covered her in fake blood and took photos to convince the woman that the hit had taken place. She was arrested after handing over the rest of the money to one of of our undercover officers.”
At the court hearing, the judge told her: “You are an evil, callous woman who sought to destroy someone's life and ruin the happiness of your son. You did this because of a few jokes.”
