A Texas man is in jail after the mother of a 7-year-old girl allegedly found photos and videos on the man's iPad that show him raping her daughter.
Jose Trinidad Gonzalez, 35, was arrested and charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child and possession of child pornography, according to the San Antonio Express-News.
Gonzalez's bail was set at $150,000. If convicted, he could face life in prison.
Gonzalez let the victim and her siblings play games on his iPad, with the knowledge and permission of the children's mother, San Antonio Express-News reports.
The relationship between Gonzalez and the mother and her children has not been released by police to protect the identity of the victim, according to International Business Times.
On Oct. 22, the mother was using Gonzalez's iPad to see what type of games her children played. While on the tablet, she says she opened the "deleted photos" folder and saw a picture of her daughter's genitals and a video of Gonzalez raping the girl.
The mother called police, who immediately arrested Gonzalez.
Gonzalez was arrested on a sexual assault charge in 2002 and sentenced to 10 years in prison, WOAI reports. After his release in 2012, Gonzalez registered as a sex offender.
"What makes this case particularly more difficult to swallow is that there's video evidence of the perpetrator committing the crime against the child," Randy McGibeny, the chief program officer of ChildSafe told WOAI.
McGibeny advises parents to look for a number of signs if they suspect their child is a victim of sexual assault.
Becoming more isolated or withdrawn or not sleeping well can be warning signs of sexual abuse, McGibeny said. Falling grades can also be a sign.
"Are they slipping in their grades? Maybe they were an A or B student now their grades are starting to drop a little bit," he said.
In August, another Texas man was sentenced to 40 years in prison for a similar crime.
Jeramy Sanchez pleaded guilty to six felony charges after he was arrested for raping his 6-year-old daughter, according to the Odessa American.
Sanchez showed his daughter videos of adults having sex and told her it was "what boyfriends and girlfriends do," the San Antonio Express-News reported.
After the girl was caught asking classmates if they "wanted to have sex like boyfriends and girlfriends," police began investigating Sanchez.
The girl told police that Sanchez raped her and recorded a video.
