You’ve probably heard by now that infamous murderer Charles Manson is engaged. Manson, who is in prison for life for directing and partaking in a string of brutal murders in the late 1960’s, has found companionship in the form of 26-year-old Afton Elaine Burton, better known as Star.
It’s reasonable to assume that most parents would feel incredibly uneasy about their child dating a crazed, unremorseful murderer like Manson. Listen to Manson talk for even 30 seconds and it becomes clear he’s not a sane man. Star’s mom, Melissa Burton, seems remarkably unconcerned about her daughter’s new flame, though.
“He does [love her],” Burton told ABC on Tuesday. “I think he does. She has been good to him.”
Burton admits she was worried about her daughter's questionable choice of partner early on, but has come to accept the relationship.
“It's a different situation,” she says. “But my daughter is smart. She plans out what she wants to do. She has come to love him.”
Star told ABC recently that she and Manson plan to be married next month.
“Y'all can know that it's true,” she said. "It's going to happen. I love him. I'm with him.”
A California prison official confirmed to the Associated Press that a marriage license has been requested by the two. If everything goes as planned, they’ll be married soon in a prison visiting room.
There is a catch to the union though – Manson, as an inmate with a life sentence and no chance for parole, is not eligible for private family visits.
