Mother Guilty Of Prostituting Teen Daughters

An Eden, North Carolina, mother pleaded guilty to prostituting her mentally disabled teenage daughters.

Teresa Vanover, 52, charged multiple men $5, $10 and $20 to participate in sexual acts with her daughters, then 15 and 13, the News & Record reports. She used the money to support her crack cocaine habit and pay her husband's medical bills.

Vanover initially only used her 15-year-old daughter as a prostitute, but when the girl refused to continue, she started using the 13-year-old.

In some instances, Vanover would simultaneously participate in sexual acts, or make her daughter watch as she had sex with a man, for $20.

The 15-year-old daughter told police about the abuse in September 2015, months after her father passed away and there were no longer medical bills to pay.

“We don’t have to do it anymore because daddy is dead,” she told the police, according to a transcript read in court by Rockingham County district attorney Craig Blitzer.

“This is one of the most disturbing cases factually I’ve heard in my 10 years on the bench,” Wilkes County Superior Court judge Mike Duncan, the sentencing judge, said, according to the News & Record.

“I know what I did with my kids was wrong, and I’m trying to make things right,” Vanover told police during her second confession.

Vanover was charged with 24 counts of child abuse by prostitution and 24 counts of promoting prostitution with a minor with a disability, according to WGHP.

As part of her plea deal, she will serve a minimum of 20 years in prison for three of her charges, and six and a half years for the other 45 charges.

Vanover’s co-defendants, two men who were involved in the prostitution ring, were also sentenced.

Everett Ferris Jr. was sentenced to six and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to six counts of patronizing a prostitute, and 36 months of probation for six counts of indecent liberties with a child.

Donnie Carter, who pleaded guilty to two counts of forcible sex offense, two counts of indecent liberties with a child and one count of patronizing a prostitute with severe mental disability, received a minimum five years and three months prison sentence and 36 months of probation.
