A man on a most wanted list for assaulting a 9-month-old baby was found hiding under a sink after being on the run since November.
Police in Belchertown, Massachusetts, responded to a call on Nov. 15, 2014 about a baby who had reportedly fallen and suffered injuries, reported Mass Live. The child was taken to a local hospital, where it was determined the 9-month-old girl had two fractured ribs and other injuries deemed inconsistent with a fall.
Officers subsequently learned that 30-year-old Keith Truehart, the boyfriend of the baby’s mother, was alone with her when the injuries were sustained and fled before police arrived.
“Evidence indicates that in November 2014 the child suffered severe head and facial injuries while she was alone with Truehart on a day when her mother was not home,” Massachusetts State Police said in a statement. "During a medical examination of the injuries the child was also found to have suffered previous fractures of two of her ribs. Evidence established that the child's severe injuries were inflicted by Truehart and could not have been the result of an accident."
Truehart was placed on the state’s most wanted list, and a months-long search ultimately lead authorities to his girlfriend’s apartment, where they found him hiding underneath a sink, reports NECN. He had reportedly created a hideout for himself under the sink using wood and drywall.
Truehart was apprehended at around 5 a.m. on June 10 and charged with assault and battery on a child, intimidation of a witness and destruction of property. He is being held without bail, and a dangerousness hearing has been set for June 16.
