More on Joran van der Sloot Confession: Victim Got Curious

There is more information about the reported confession of Joran van der Sloot to the murder of a young woman in Peru. It appears curiosity may have killed the woman.

According to a report in Peru's La Republica newspaper, van der Sloot said he killed 21-year-old Stephany Flores because she was looking on his laptop and found out about his connection to the Natalee Holloway disappearance.

"I did not want to do it. The girl intruded into my private life... she didn't have any right," van der Sloot reportedly told police.

"I went to her and I hit her," he said, according to the newspaper. "She was scared, we argued and she tried to escape. I grabbed her by the neck and hit her."

Van der Sloot's reported confession came on his third full day in Peruvian police custody, the day before authorities are set to bring van der Sloot to the hotel where Flores was killed. Investigators hope to reconstruct the events leading to her murder, said Peru's chief police spokesman, Col. Abel Gamarra.

The case will also be turned over to prosecutors to present formal charges, he said.

The maximum penalty for murder in Peru is 35 years in prison.
