Mom's Decision To Change Baby On Chipotle Restaurant Dining Table Sparks Controversy

A mom at a Chipotle restaurant in the Midwest sparked controversy when she decided to change her baby’s diaper on a table in the middle of the dining area because the establishment lacked a changing table.

Reports say that the mother was eating at a Chipotle restaurant when her baby suddenly needed a diaper change. When she went to the bathroom, she discovered that there was no changing table, so she decided to do what she felt she had to and change her baby on a table in the dining area. That decision didn’t sit well with Chipotle employees who suggested that the mom go to her car to change the diaper.

The woman’s husband, who appears to have been there when the incident took place, was reportedly not happy when the Chipotle employees told them to move the changing to their car.

“[An employee showed] inability/unwillingness to empathize with parents who find [the car] a less convenient alternative even on a beautiful day like yesterday, much less a subfreezing day as we undoubtedly will have in [this region] this winter,” wrote Chad, the baby’s father, in a letter to Chipotle headquarters.

Chad also goes on in the letter to apologize for the decision, admitting that his wife’s decision to change the baby on a table was “unsavory” and apologizing for any health code violations he may have caused. Chad maintained, however, that he wouldn’t return to the restaurant until they installed a baby-changing table in the bathroom and threatened to eat at Qdoba because they have changing tables.

Chipotle responded to Chad’s letter, saying that they were working on getting changing tables installed at some of their locations.

“We are currently in the process of retrofitting locations with changing tables, but I understand that this is not a very timely solution,” reads the response. “I will forward your email to our [city] restaurant team, so they can understand where you come from, to maybe ease some of the tension. As you can understand it might be disconcerting for other customers to see a child getting changed directly on the tables, and we want to provide all of our customers with an exceptional experience.”

Chad reportedly responded to their response asking for a date when they would install the changing tables, but the restaurant was unable to give him a clear answer.
