A first grade student was viciously assaulted in a school bathroom by an older child, according to her parents.

Cheryl Tackett told WXIA that a fifth grade girl attacked her 6-year-old daughter, Lanira, at Oakland Elementary School in McDonough, Georgia, May 19.

The assault, which Tackett said was premeditated, occurred around 10 a.m. in a school bathroom, Fox 5 notes.

"The girl said she wanted to talk to my daughter," Tackett told WXIA. "She pulled her into the bathroom and proceeded with the attack."

During the assault, the older girl choked Lanira and tried to submerge her head into the toilet several times, hitting her head on the toilet, according to Fox 5. When a first grade teacher heard the commotion and went into the bathroom, Lanira was reportedly found lying bloodied on the floor.

"Her clothes were soaking wet, her backpack was soaking wet," Tackett told WXIA.

Tackett said the fifth grader who assaulted Lanira had threatened her daughter on the school bus earlier in May and told the child that she would beat her up. Tackett reportedly complained to school officials after the older student made the threat, but it is not clear whether they took any action.

"You send your kids to school to get an education, they should not have to worry about getting pulled into the bathroom and getting pummeled by someone nearly twice their age," Jeremy Tackett, Lanira's father, told Fox 5.

Lanira's parents have pulled all five of their children out of the school district. They said they are spreading the word about what happened to their daughter to make more people aware of school violence.

"People choose to ignore it, they need to know that bullying is real and it is something that affects children," Jeremy said.

The fifth grade girl who assaulted Lanira has been charged in juvenile court with false imprisonment, aggravated assault and battery, Fox 5 reported.

Deputies from the Henry County Sheriff's Department are still investigating the case.
