An Oklahoma mother and three children died when the mother was reportedly distracted while driving.
Erin Van Horn, 40, was driving her children and their friends home on July 17 when her SUV collided with a tractor trailer, according to Daily Mail.
Three of the children in the car -- Elizabeth Edwards, Beck Kitterman and Erin's son Zach Van Horn -- died in the crash, along with Erin. The children were 13, 11 and 10 years of age, respectively.
Three other children in the car, 13-year-olds Lauren Van Horn and Isabella Kitterman and 7-year-old Samantha Van Horn, were injured and hospitalized during the accident. Samantha was released the same day.
The children had known each other from playing soccer together, and were on their way back from an outing.
Beck and Zach were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. It's unclear whether the other children were wearing theirs.
It's also not clear what distracted Erin while she was driving, but a police report lists the mom's inattention as an "unsafe/unlawful contributing factor" to the accident.
The report also says that there was "no improper action" on the part of the other driver, 45-year-old Arash Zarezadeh.
Zarezadeh was not injured.
Friends started a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for the Van Horn family:
We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Jenks’ parent Erin Van Horn and her 10-year old son Zach. We, the friends and family of the Van Horn family, are still in prayer for his daughter who is still in critical condition. Our most heartfelt condolences are extended to all families affected by this tragic accident, and our thoughts are with those who are recovering both mentally and physically from their injuries.
We wish them all a quick and complete recovery, and we urge everyone to l the privacy of the families during this most difficult time. We know money can not bring back those that are lost, our prayer is that we give the families involved the space to grieve and deal with this loss. Thank you in advance for your thoughts, prayers, time and treasure.
Friends also started a campaign to help the Kitterman and Edwards families after the loss of their children:
A recent tragic accident has impacted this sweet family as well as so many others. They have lost a son and currently have 2 daughters in critical condition. Their family has been through the unthinkable with a timeless road ahead. We can't fathom the emotions, however, we can help by surrounding them in prayer, love, and support as they begin with grieving, medical expenses, and trying to put their lives back together.
