A Decatur, Georgia, woman suffered a heart attack after her son shot and killed two men who were attempting to break in to their home on Jan. 13.
Timoteo Hernandez, 28, reportedly told officers that he shot two men outside of his home after they attempted to rob him.
According to Hernandez, the men entered the home after he and his mother sat down to eat dinner. They knocked on the door and stormed in once Hernandez answered.
"When I opened the door, these two guys stormed in with guns and started pistol-whipping me and took me to the ground,” he told CBS, according to Daily Mail. One of the men attacked his mother, pistol-whipping and kicking her.
Another suspect went after Hernandez, throwing him to the ground in the guest bedroom and pointing a gun at him.
“He put a gun to my head and I just started fighting back,” Hernandez said. He grabbed his father's hunting rifle and began shooting.
Police arrived after 5 p.m. and found an unidentified man lying facedown in the front yard. The man was “bleeding heavily from the head” and “not breathing,” according to a police report.
The man was later pronounced dead by emergency personnel.
The second suspect, identified as 44-year-old Conyers, Georgia, resident Anthony Hubbard, was shot in the chest and died at a nearby hospital the next day. Hubbard was reportedly wounded when he fled in a car driven by 25-year-old Chernika Marks.
Marks was subsequently charged with murder, aggravated assault, and armed robbery.
Hernandez’s 51-year-old mother, Ramona Derossette, suffered a heart attack during the home invasion and was transported to Emory Hospital for surgery.
